First Doctors Appointment

So today was the first visit. I had been counting down to this day since I found out I was pregnant. So this morning I got up and decided to look up what they did exactly at this first visit. I should have gone in ignorant! I became SO nervous when I found out what most doctors do.

So let's start at the beginning…

As usual, I get there with William 30 minutes early in case they need extra paper work. Plus, you never know they could actually be running early. So I check in, no big deal. Then we wait. We waited 2 hours in that room. Every time that door opened I had hope but was turned down as "Smith?" was called. I told William that I was never going to go in and we were going to be forever stuck in the waiting room. It could actually be a good thing because I would not have to go far to deliver! = ) About an hour and a half into the waiting I had to use the potty so bad that I went in the mysterious door and told them I was going regardless of what they said and so that was when they gave me the wondrous cup. I hate the cup.
Alas, I was called. Two hours later may I remind you! They checked weight and blood pressure. When I saw the weight I wanted to tell the nurse that at home I was two pounds lighter but decided that it was not that important. = ) Then she walked me into the room that I was going to get well acquainted with since I was to spend another 30 minutes waiting for the doctor to come in. This may be WTMI (Way too much information) but I had to sit there (for 30 minutes) with a sheet over my lap, need I explain any further?
Finally, my doctor came in. She is a wonderful doctor and I am way excited for the next months with her. But she did the tests she needed to and then we called William into the room. This is when it got good! The doctor was doing the ultrasound and kept saying there were all these shadows. Of course I was like shadows? It's dark in there! Duh! LOL. Turns out that even though I went to the bathroom before I was called back, my blatter was FULL. The life of a pregnant woman is spent using the potty.
So finally she was able to get the heart beat. What a beautiful sound that was! It was fast but steady and loud! William said, "Wow, you are actually able to get that?" I giggled... Then she got a really good picture of our baby. We found out that we are actually 7 weeks along (I thought 8) and due on May 17, 2010.

So that was the first appointment in a nut shell. =) I of course left out some details for the sensitive eyes. But it was nothing like what I had researched and thought the appointment was going to be like. Thank God!

As a celebration William took me out to lunch at Cafe Capri and we ate some REALLY good pasta... Ask William about his, he might not be able to stop telling you about it. = )
( I would post the ultrasound but we cannot find our camera cord to load it to the computer so I will load it when we find it)

Love you all!

OB/GYN doctors always have a wait of 2 hours. Any appointment I have with my OB/GYN is like that. I usually call ahead to make sure they are on schedule or behind. If they are behind I ask them to give me an estimate of when to come in and usually I can just walk right in and services completed immediately.
